What inspired you to pursue a career in this industry, and how has your perspective as a woman shaped your vision and hospitality approach?

While I now co-own a small boutique hotel in Italy with my husband, my journey in the travel industry began twenty years ago as a travel advisor. Inspired by my deep love for Italy - the homeland of my grandparents - I was determined to share the country’s finest experiences with my clients. Growing up in a family that frequently hosted dinner or overnight guests, I learned firsthand what makes hospitality truly special. I discovered that guests appreciate feeling cared for, valued, and even indulged.

What is your favorite part of working in luxury hospitality, and what keeps you passionate about continuing to evolve your brand and guest experience?

My favorite part of working in luxury hospitality is witnessing the pure delight on our guests’ faces as they uncover the hidden gems of Italy, such as the enchanting town of Orvieto and the timeless charm of Palazzo Misciattelli. There’s a magical transformation that occurs when visitors experience these unspoiled locales - their eyes light up with wonder as they explore centuries-old architecture, savor authentic flavors, and immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of art and culture. We continue to evolve by constantly seeking innovative ways to create these moments of discovery and joy, tailoring experiences that not only showcase the beauty of our surroundings but also forge deep, personal connections between our guests and the storied heritage of our region.

What is a signature experience at one of your properties that truly reflects your personal touch or leadership?

Signature experiences at Palazzo Misciattelli include a welcome aperitivo served on our rooftop terrace or in our historic salons, as well as a 20‑minute orientation walk through Orvieto - past its 100 shops, 50 restaurants, and 25 cafés. When time permits, we highly recommend the Olive Grove Safari, a scenic 15‑minute drive into the hills where guests can tour our olive grove and enjoy an aperitivo or lunch. Many clients describe this as one of the most magical experiences they have ever had.

Can you share a moment when being a woman in this industry gave you a unique perspective or advantage in creating exceptional guest experiences?

One moment when my identity as a woman in this industry provided a unique advantage occurred during a tour of our historic living room. I believe that women are often more attuned to others’ emotions, allowing us to connect with guests in a thoughtful, empathetic way. While guiding a guest through the room, I noticed she was lingering - studying each piece of furniture more intently than most. Observing her evident emotion, I gently asked if everything was all right - a gesture not every hotel staff member might make for fear of intruding. She then confided that our home reminded her of the one she had given up due to her husband’s illness, and I invited her to join me for a coffee, which she greatly appreciated.

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned as a female leader in luxury travel, and how has it shaped the way you do business?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as a female leader in luxury travel is how to lead a predominantly female team. I believe in being a servant leader - leading from the ground up rather than from a top-down approach. I’m never above doing any task. Although our team is organized with clear roles and responsibilities, it’s crucial that every staff member feels part of a cohesive unit. For example, when one morning a team member overslept, I helped organize the morning tasks. When she arrived, she was so upset with herself that she could barely speak. I reassured her repeatedly that we are a team and that we always help one another. This approach builds genuine appreciation and loyalty among our staff.
