THE HISTORY

1608 — The original Coaching Inn is built and quickly becomes a haven for saddle sore visitors on their way to the Giant’s Causeway. It was here travelers would stop to sample the whiskey that made this charming village internationally famous.

1820 — The main hotel is built as part of a major redevelopment of the town by the local landowner Sir Frances Workman Macnaghten whose descendants still live in the local area.

1890 — The hotel falls into decline due to the arrival of a tram link to the Causeway. Over the next century the property is used as a boarding house, a private home, a bike-making factory and a ‘residence’ for chickens!

1987 — Extensive development works begin and the hotel wins awards for its imaginative restoration.

1997 — 22 additional accommodations are added in the adjoining ‘Mill House’ on the banks of the River Bush.

2009 — Further development begins, bringing the hotel to its current total of 41 bedrooms and suites. A new courtyard garden, state of the art conference facilities, an exclusive cinema and a 'Garden Room' extension to the Restaurant are also added.

THE HOTEL

The Rooms: Ranging from cottage style Mill House Classic Rooms to spacious Superior Guest Rooms and Suites, all 41 rooms are beautifully appointed and individually designed.

The Restaurant: Overlooking the garden courtyard, the award winning ‘Taste of Ulster’ Restaurant takes in the original 17th century stables and wine cellar. Blending classical with 'new Irish' cuisine, each dish is crafted from traditional roots but with a Bushmills twist.

The Nooks and Crannies: From 'inglenook turf fires' to 'hayloft snugs', as well as a secret library, there is something to discover behind every door.

The Gas Bar: In the Bar, still lit by gas light, you can try a glass of malt from the hotel’s private cask or enjoy some Irish 'craic' at their live music evenings.

THE LOCAL FOCUS

The Bushmills Inn takes pride in their commitment to provide produce of the highest standard, and part of that commitment involves working with local suppliers to ensure quality, traceability and consistency. They firmly believe that local food tells the story of Northern Ireland’s culture, heritage, people and landscape, and they are passionate about showcasing their ethos of ‘Taste of Ulster’. While the menu evolves and adapts, one key constant is this commitment to local suppliers to ensure culinary creations that remain true to their roots.
