Introducing Castello di Gabiano

Monferrato is an area located within Italy’s northwestern region of Piedmont that has become increasingly popular for its UNESCO World Heritage Site status, vineyard dotted landscapes, medieval villages, wine and food production, rich history and abundance of truffles. A truly authentic part of Italy with so much to offer, we are delighted to fly the Waterstone flag in this beautiful region via our wonderful new property, CASTELLO DI GABIANO.

Perched atop Monferrato’s highest hill, Castello di Gabiano provides both wonderful views and a fascinating look into 12th century life in Piedmont. The castle has belonged to many noble families throughout its impressive history, ending with the Durazzo family, of which the current owners are heirs.

Today, Giacomo Cattaneo Adorno, the last Marquis of Gabiano, together with his wife Emanuela, run the property with great passion and determination. For 20 years they worked to restore and renovate Castello di Gabiano, bringing in wrought iron artisans, carpenters and sculptors to uncover its thousand-year-old history.

Located throughout the 640-acre grounds of the castle, there are 12 unique accommodations for guests to enjoy, each with varying views of the vineyards, the private lake, the park, the boxwood maze, the swimming pool and the Italian style orchards that make up the property. Castello di Gabiano is especially interesting for wine lovers, with wine being produced on property from its very own vineyards. The team is committed to capturing the flavors of their land, which is reflected not only in their wine but also in the local cuisine offered at their restaurant "3 Orologi". There are many experiences to be had at Castello di Gabiano including the following:
